Every proprietary monitoring tool in this space shows you a dashboard full of green lights. Compliance scores. Health metrics. A beautifully governed fleet of agents, according to themselves.
Not one of them has published a failure.
Here's what that actually means:
It doesn't mean their systems never fail. It means their incentive is to hide it. Proprietary governance theater runs on the assumption that you'll never look behind the curtain — and they're counting on that.
When we audited our own reference implementation, we found two conformance failures. We disclosed them. We documented them in the probe log. We fixed them and showed the work.
That's what credibility looks like. Not a perfect score. A verifiable record — including the parts that didn't pass.
The implication is direct: if your AI accountability tool has never shown you a failure, it isn't finding failures. It's performing coverage.
The GOVENANT standard is free under CC BY 4.0. Four conformance levels with clear, verifiable criteria. Open to challenge by anyone. Self-audited on published evidence, including the failures.
